At Peru Travel with Purpose, we believe that every trip can be more than just a vacation—it can be a powerful, positive experience for both travelers and the local communities they visit. That’s why we partner with Elim Orphanage, a local organization in Cusco that provides safe and loving homes, education, and support to children in vulnerable situations.
Start Your Cusco Trip with Heart
Imagine starting your Cusco adventure with something truly special—like sharing smiles with kids who will warm your heart just as much as your Machu Picchu tour. One of our travelers did exactly that: before their tour even began, they stopped by Elim, brought a few small gifts, and spent a joyful afternoon filled with laughter, games, and hugs. It turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of their entire trip.
Got a couple of free hours when you arrive in Cusco? You can do the same. We organize short, meaningful visits where you can meet the kids, connect with them, and see firsthand how Elim is making a difference in their lives every day.
Interested in Volunteering in Peru? Elim Welcomes Volunteers!
Elim Orphanage in Cusco also offers opportunities for travelers who want to give back through volunteering. You don’t need experience or a long-term commitment. Even a couple of hours—one morning, an afternoon—can be incredibly meaningful.
Volunteer tasks are simple but full of impact: you might play games with the kids, help with homework, or just be there to offer company and kindness.
There are two homes:
- The Boys’ House: A large building with dorms, a playroom, computer room, and a terrace overlooking the city.
- The Girls’ House: Smaller and cozy, located near a park and local market.
Travel That Gives Back
Elim was founded in 2000 by Nilda Escobar, a social worker from Cusco. Today, the orphanage supports up to 30 children. Every smile here matters, and every helping hand—whether time, donations, or a visit—goes directly to the kids.
Visiting Elim is a beautiful way to experience a more human and authentic side of Cusco. Want to help? You’re welcome to bring school supplies, hygiene products, or simple toys (just check in with the staff first so they can guide you on what’s most needed).
