The Ministry of Culture in Peru has officially announced updates for 2026 Machu Picchu tickets and the Inca Trail reservation system. These changes are designed to improve planning for both travelers and tour operators while ensuring the conservation of one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites.
If you’re dreaming of your next Machu Picchu trip, here’s what this means for your Machu Picchu travel plans in 2026.
1. Machu Picchu Ticket Sales Open November 17, 2025
Starting November 17, 2025, visitors will be able to book tickets for the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, Peru, for 2026. Interestingly, just a week after the initial announcement (when many thought all 2026 tickets would be released at once), the Ministry of Culture published a new update with an official schedule. It turns out that most tickets will actually become available in January 2026, following a phased release.
According to the Ministry of Culture’s new schedule, Machu Picchu entrance ticket releases will happen in stages:
- Nov. 17, 2025: Entrance tickets for Jan. 1-5, 2026
- Jan. 3, 2026: Tickets for Jan. 6-31, 2026
- Jan. 12-19, 2026: Remaining months released gradually
- Jan. 12 – February 2026
- Jan. 13 – March 2026
- Jan. 14 – April 2026
- Jan. 15 – May 2026
- Jan. 16 – June 2026
- Jan. 17 – July 2026
- Jan. 19 – August to December 2026

2. Inca Trail Tickets Linked to Machu Picchu’s Circuit 3B
To support preservation efforts, Inca Trail tickets will now be linked to Circuit 3B within the Machu Picchu archaeological site. This adjustment was made to manage the flow of visitors and protect the monument’s delicate ecosystem. Circuit 3B allows travelers to enjoy an immersive experience-exploring key areas while minimizing congestion and helping to maintain the site’s natural and historical integrity.
3. Ongoing Conservation and Visitor Coordination
The Ministry of Culture has also announced ongoing coordination meetings to refine and adapt the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu circuits for upcoming years. These meetings aim to balance visitor satisfaction with the long-term conservation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s part of Peru’s broader effort to promote responsible Machu Picchu travel where tourism not only benefits visitors but also protects local communities, heritage, and the environment.
