The city of Cusco in the Andes of Peru is filled with tradition. This past January 19th was an important date for Cusco and Peruvians alike as it marked the beginning of the year’s festivities in the city, including the highlight – Inti Raymi (Sun Festival) every June.
There will be 2 major announcements this year regarding Inti Raymi, which will be broadcast live by the Peruvian government:
- A national ceremony on February 15th
- An international ceremony in Miami on March 16th
Although Inti Raymi (see What Is Inti Raymi?) is the central event of Cusco celebrations every year, there are a wide variety of festivities all year round in the city of Cusco from school parades to ceremonies tied to religious events to classic holiday fiestas.
Sometimes, all you need to do is go out for a walk in the historic center of downtown Cusco, and you’ll find yourself in a middle of a block party.
